Can you take a rug to the dry cleaners?
We have not heard of this being done. Some rugs do need dry cleaning but most can be steam cleaned.
How do you clean an area rug?
The simple answer is we steam clean area rugs however we use an advanced method of steam cleaning that doesn’t leave detergent behind ensuring your rugs stay clean longer by spraying our solution on and using a buffer to agitate the fibers before steam cleaning. We also vacuum both sides of the area rug and use a counter rotating brush before we clean to get out deep dirt and prepare the rug for cleaning.
Can I clean my wool rug at home?
We do not recommend this for a variety of reasons. We hand select very carefully every chemical we are willing to use on wool rugs as they can be damaged by harsh chemicals and if you do not do it properly you can brown the rugs which will possibly be irrevocable. Also very fine rugs that are vegetable dyed might bleed if improperly treated.
Can I spot clean my rug at home?
Over the counter remedies are often not wool safe therefore we do not recommend spot cleaning without knowing if your rug is vegetable dyed as fine rugs with vegetable dyes might bleed and ruin the rug. So be very careful.
Can I use baking soda on an oriental rug?
We do not use baking soda in any of our cleaning methods and cannot say whether or not this might damage your rug. We do not recommend home treatments on oriental rugs without first calling us to discuss the pro’s and cons as you can seriously damage a very expensive rug by using the wrong chemicals on it and we cannot know what type of dye is used without seeing the rug.
Even if your rug is safe to use baking soda on it will be extremely difficult to get all of the baking soda picked back up and it may damage the underlay and the floor beneath.
How do you get stains out of an Oriental rug?
We would have to see the stains and the rug before we could give advice on this. Unlike wall to wall rugs made of artificial materials wool rugs are much easier to damage and worth more money so we strongly advise calling us to discuss any treatments before using them. Once in our shop we have a variety of ways to treat rugs.

Sometimes wrinkles in Oriental rugs are from the back of the rugs delaminating. If that is the case there is nothing we can do. However if the wrinkles were caused by other factors we have a heavy duty steamer that might be able to fix the wrinkles.
Do rug pads stop slipping and tripping?
Standard pads do not stop rugs from slipping and tripping. You need a specific kind of pad that has non-skid elements built in. We have two types of area and oriental rug pad that we sell that have non-skid elements. One is a pressed sheet which is an upgrade over the typical waffle pad. We recommend this pad for hallway runners and in Dining rooms as the low profile is an advantage in those instances. All other areas we recommend our Persian Dream pad which has both non-skid back but a thickness of a felt like material that bring a level of comfort as well.
Do rug pads help rugs last longer?
Absolutely! By putting a rug pad under your Area or Oriental fine rug you are helping the rug to last longer as the pad absorbs a lot of the shock of foot traffic. It also helps your wood floor finish to last longer as well.
Do you need a pad underneath an area rug?
While you don’t have to have an area rug pad If you don’t have an area rug pad, you are likely to damage your hardwood floors underneath (by scratches, discoloration and/or wearing the finish down). And, the area rug provides cushioning for the carpet…so that it too will last longer.
Is a rug pad really necessary?
While you can live without a pad a non-slip rug pad is absolutely the best way to avert the chances of someone slipping on a rug that is not holding on to the floor properly. In addition to being an added safety, rug pads hold your area rug in place during vacuuming, and moving furniture. Rug pads help to keep rugs cleaner therefore and last longer. It also helps floors to last longer as well.
